ALLELUIA!  The Lord is compassion and love slow to anger and rich in mercy.

God loved the world so much

That he gave his only Son,

So that everyone who believes in him may not be lost

But may have eternal life.

For God sent his Son into the world not to condemn the world,

But so that through him the world might be saved.

John 3: 16-17.

On April 30, 2000, Pope John Paul II canonised Sr. Faustina as the first saint of the great jubilee year and the third millenium of the Christian world.  During his homily, the pope announced that the Second Sunday of Easter would now be celebrated as Divine Mercy Sunday throughout the unviersal Church.

The Pope quoted from the Diary of Sr. Faustina where Jesus told her "Mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to My mercy."

"The light of Divine Mercy, which the Lord in a way wished to return to the world through Sr. Faustina's charism, will illumine the way for the men and women of the third millenium."

First Reading: Acts Chapter 5 verses 12-16

"many signs and wonders were worked among the people at the hands of the apostles.. People even came crowding in from the towns round about Jerusalem, bringing with them their sickl and those tormented by unclean spirits, and all of them were cured."

Response to the Psalm "Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, his love is everlasting"

Psalm 117(118) verses 2-4. 22-27

'His faithful love endures forever'

'The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone'

Second Reading:  from the book of the Apocalypse (also called Revelation) Chapter 1 verses 9-13, 17-19

"I saw one like a Son of man, dressed in a long white robe tied at the waist with a belt of gold..his eyes like a burning flame..and his voice like the sound of the ocean..and his face was like the sun shining with all its force."

"He said 'Do not be afraid; it is I, the First and the Last: I am the Living One...  Now write down all that you see of present happenings and what is still to come'."

Gospel: John Chapter 20: verses 19-31

The Apostle John, most probably the author of the book of Revelation, the eye witness to the events of the torture and crucifixion and now the resurrection of his Lord, tells us of that first Easter day of the resurrection.  When Jesus came to them, that evening, in his risen form, he entered mysteriously through closed doors. He showed them his wounds.  He was real.

The Lord gave instructions about his new church. This was a business meeting.

"Peace be with you.  As the Father sent me, so am I sending you."

He breathed on them and said:

'Receive the Holy Spirit.

If you forgive anyone's sins, they are forgiven;

if you retain anyone's sins, they are retained'

'Do not be unbelieving any more but believe. You believe because you can see me.'

' Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.' "

When He said those words, Jesus saw you and me.
