Acts 3.1-10 The man at the Beautiful Gate, the beggar, a cripple from birth was put near the entrance of the Temple each day to beg. "Both Peter and John looked straight at him and said 'Look at us'. Peter said 'I have neither silver nor gold but I will give you what I have: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, walk!'" Can we as disciples of Jesus look straight at someone who suffers? What was Peter looking for? Faith? A humble heart? Can we then act in the name of Jesus? What happened next? Read about it in your Bible. Let all who seek the Lord rejoice. Psalm 104(105) Consider the Lord and his strength; constantly seek his face. Gospel: Luke 24. 13-35 Cleopas and his friend were walking 7 miles from Jerusalem to the village of Emmaus. They were rather condescending to the stranger walking their way, who seemed to know nothing of the events of the past two days. Despite all their news, they didn't understand that Jesus had risen from the dead. Their companion then explained to them the prophets and the messages about the Messiah. They invited him to share a meal and they "recognised him at the breaking of the bread." But "he had vanished from their sight." They hurried back to Jerusalem to learn and confirm that Jesus had risen from the dead. Today's readers of Luke's gospel, as post-Resurrection Christians may feel a bit condescending of those early Christians, who didn't seem to just get it. If we have got the message, can we hurry to tell others about him? |
