EASTER TUESDAY Acts 2:36-41 On the day of Pentecost, many of those hearing the words of Peter repented of their role in the death of Jesus. "They were cut to the heart. What must we do, brothers? You must repent and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgivenss of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" Peter himself knew the forgiveness of his Jesus. He had rejected his Lord three times on the terrible night of the Lord's trial. He wept bitter tears and came to Jesus and was forgiven. We have a loving, forgiving God. He asks only for a humble, repentant heart. No sin is too great to be beyond God's mercy and love. The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.
Psalm 32(33) 4-5. 18-20. 22 The Lord looks on those who rever him, on those who hope in his love. Gospel: John 20. 11-18 Mary Magdalen stays outside the tomb weeping and sees two angels. Why are you weeping, they ask? Because they have taken my Lord. Jesus then is there, but she does not recognise him until he says to her "Mary" John and Matthew in their gospels tell slightly different accounts of this amzing encounter. But the outcome is the same. The repentant sinner, the notorious woman, scandal of her race, is the first to see Jesus as the risen Lord. Because she loved much and bitterly repented of her sins. |
