Diaries entries from Father Doyle's Spiritual Journal
Sunday 20th March 1982: I woke very early in the morning about 4 o'clock troubled and unable to sleep because Satan had been the cause of a severe interior trial which had left me very cranky and upset. I snapped at all around me on Saturday and had a few words with Sue down the road. Our Lady appeared before me dressed in a white nun's habit. The habit had a long scapular like the Carmelites wear which was piped with black. She wore a crown and carried a huge sheath of yellow roses. She handed me the bouquet of roses and as I accepted them all, the petals fell off leaving me with only the stalks and one lone yellow rose at the top of the bunch. The one rose that was left Our Lady bent down and picked it off the stalk and pressed it thorns and all into my heart. Tuesday 23rd March 1982: In prayer a young man appeared before me. He was dressed in a brown rough habit, a bit like a monk's habit, but I knew that it was not one. He told me he was St. Ignatius and he was a fighting soldier. He was very young with curly golden hair. I was quite surprised to see him because I had been talking so in prayer to St. Therese of Avila lately and had become so used to her company that I felt I really didn't want anyone else. I also did not expect St. Ignatius to look like that, his particular style of dressing was not as I imagined him to wear. After saying that he was a fighting soldier he left and I thought nothing more about him until Valerie rang me and told me St. Francis Xavier had appeared to her and asked me to pray about it.
Saturday 27th March 1982: When I prayed the Lord told me that the two appearances were linked. I went to a few books I had here and discovered St. Ignatius and St. Francis Xavier were friends and both founders of the Jesuits. I also read that upon St. Ignatius' conversion he put on the sackcloth of a pilgrim which explains why he was wearing that brownish habit when I saw him. I rang Valerie and told her that the two appearances were linked, but I didn't know why. Just after I got off the phone the Lord called me to prayer. St. Ignatius appeared again and said these words "the Jesuits have a precious jewel which you can use" and he handed me a gold cross about the size of my hand with five red stones on it. Then he placed it around my neck. I had seen the cross before because I had seen St. Therese looking at it one day. After this Our Lady appeared above us standing on a cloud and told me to listen to her loving servant. St. Ignatius and Our Lady looked at each other with great love, I could see beams of light coming from the eyes of each of them as they gazed at each other. At this I thought the vision had finished and I decided I would go to my secret place where I met Jesus and Mary and spend some time in adoration there. When I got there Valerie and St. Francis Xavier were there and so was St. Ignatius, all four of us knelt before Jesus and Mary in prayer and adoration. I could not see St. Francis but I was aware of his presence. As we prayed it seemed as if Valerie and I were absorbed into St. Francis and St. Ignatius. The Cross I was given is called the Founders Cross: The next day when I went to prayer again, Valerie, St. Francis, myself and St. Ignatius were there again. St. Francis was teaching Valerie how to pray the Rosary. Our Lady's heart was bleeding from the thorns placed in it and she told me to water the seed. She also said the blood was symbolic of the martyrs of the Angelus Order who would be seeds of the Church. St. Ignatius took my arm and led me away to tell me many things about the Shrines of Our Lady. I cannot hear what he is saying, but he is talking a lot. The first shrine he took me to was the Shrine of Our Lady of Snow. (Maria Maggiore Basilica in Rome). The Shrine was built on a hill and the pilgrims came here and walked on their knees up the hill to pray to Our Lady. St. Ignatius told me to do that, I walked on my knees up the hill and when I reached the shrine he told me to pray for the Mary of the Angelus Order. The seed which had been planted in Our Lady's Heart now had to be covered with a blanket of Grace for germination, it may appear to die as in winter but when spring comes it will grow tall and beautiful. So I prayed to Our Lady of Snow for a blanket of grace (snow) to cover the seeds of Mary of the Angelus Order (Valerie and myself) so that the germination would take place.
27th March 1982: I saw Our Lady at Mass all dressed in yellow standing on a cloud and surrounded by angels. She carried three roses in her hand, one red, one pink, and one yellow, they looked like roses from the vase on my altar. She looked very motherly, the way she does in the Our Lady Help of Christian's picture. 30th March 1982: The vision of a white nun's habit with the bouquet of roses with one being pressed into my heart. (20th March) I asked for the spiritual grace that was given to Daniel to understand what this vision meant. Our Lady told me that she represented the Angelus Order. The yellow roses represent peace which the Angelus Order will bring to the Church. The reason why the petals fell off is that I will not see that time of peace myself, I will live in a time of turmoil but I will always have peace in my heart. This is represented by Our Lady pressing the peace rose into my heart. I saw Our Lady again dressed in the white nun's habit with black piping. She held in her hand three roses I had seen her with last Saturday in Mass when she was dressed in yellow surrounded by angels. The roses were red, pink and yellow. I asked her what this meant and she told me the roses would be the wedding bouquet of the sisters of the Angelus Order in the future plan of God. They were symbolic of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (red) and the Immaculate Heart of Mary (pink) and the rose of peace (yellow). Peace would come at the Triumph of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary which was to be the principal role of the Angelus Order praying for this to come to be. Our Lady told me again this is what we would wear. She also had on a large oval silver medal around her neck on a chain which Our Lady said we would also wear. I could not see the medal properly, it looked like Our Lady of Sorrows on the front, and is what the Canossans nuns wear. This is all a bit blurry but I put it down now and wait for further confirmation from Our Lady.
I saw Our Lady again at Mass to-day dressed in a white nun's habit with black piping. This time she had the garland of red, pink and yellow roses around her head. I have seen her since with garland of red, pink and yellow roses around her neck.
Our Lady told me at Mass that the white and black habit was for her daughters of the Angelus Order who lived in seclusion in the convent in a contemplative way. The yellow dress would be worn by the daughters of the Angelus Order who were Tertiary. (I took this to mean members of the third order.) I was to look up some old books and find out more about tertiary orders. St. Catherine of Sienna and St. Rose of Lima were both tertiary of the Dominicans. They wore a habit and lived holy lives in the world.
Our Lady spoke to me again telling me more about my vision of 27th March. When I saw her in yellow surrounded by Angels and standing on a cloud she looked very motherly and mature. She called herself Our Lady of the Assumption. "I am Our Lady of the Assumption" she said, "My yellow dress is symbolic of your order which will unite the body and spirit of all religious orders on earth thus bringing to them the glory of the resurrection." I have more to tell you about this. The roses are symbolic of the humanity, divinity, and resurrected glory of Christ. (The humanity and divinity of Christ were united in the womb of Mary when she was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit. The Word was made flesh in the person of Jesus and enabled the resurrection to take place.)
This morning at Mass Our Lady told me that Our Lady of the Assumption was the New Eve who gives birth to all men and women so that they could receive the glory of the resurrection. As I write this entry on the 28th April I have had a chance to look more closely at the Medal the Canossans wear. The one I saw around Our Lady's neck was definitely large and oval with the Sorrowful mother on the front. On the back was the little representation of Our Lady's heart which I was shown on the 25th March with the thorn, bleeding heart and the Cooktown Orchid around the heart and which I have since drawn up.
Prayer Ministry for God's Poor. (The Anawaim ) To provide a ministry to God's poor will requires us to recognise that we too are poor. Aim: The aim of Mary of the Angelus mission is to be a prayer ministry for the people of God (His church) and to give our first priority to the poor. We do this by being present to them with God's love for their emotional and spiritual needs. Role: The Church offers to all of God's people her Sacraments of Initiation, Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist and Penance. (the sacrament of forgiveness and healing and spiritual growth). Baptism of the Holy Spirit: An Angelus member's faith journey is lived out in the power and strength of the Holy Spirit. They do this on a daily basis by praying for a new outpouring of God's Holy Spirit. (Baptism of the Holy Spirit). Poverty of Spirit: 1. All members attracted to this Association will become aware of their own sinfulness and of God's Mercy actively working in their lives. 2. Members will identify with Christ's brokenness on the cross and embrace their own and others frailties as well with a humble contrite heart. Prayer exercises for God's mercy: Members will be encouraged to visualise Jesus on the cross and pray for His blood to wash over them and the people or events in their memories. The Divine Mercy Icon with the image of gold and red rays radiating God's mercy to the world will be encouraged for prayer visualisation exercise.
Members will intercede for others to forgive like Jesus did on the cross. "Father forgive them because they do not know what they do." Jesus' ability to forgive those who crucified Him as an innocent victim, prepares the way for us to receive the grace to forgive the unforgivable actions of others. Experiential Faith: Members will desire to pray for others with a living faith from their own life experiences. Contemplative Prayer: Contemplative Prayer exercises deepen members faith and matures the prayer gifts of the Holy Spirit to grow in wisdom, love and understanding of God's ways. 1. Contemplative Prayer develops the desire to pray for others. The spiritual gifts of wisdom, knowledge, understanding, good counsel, fortitude, piety and reverence for God will be fostered within this Intercessory Prayer Ministry. 2. Contemplative Prayer heightens our awareness of the Sacramental life and blessings available to us through Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist and Penance. 3. Contemplative Prayer prepares us to understand the Mother of God role as Queen of intercessors and as a role model for members. 4. Contemplative Prayer heightens our reverence for the Catholic Church's "Magisterium" and their revealed truths. 5. Contemplative Prayer empowers us to perceive and understand the role Catholic devotional prayers play in the healing process for the spiritually wounded. eg. Litanies, Novenas, Stations of the Cross, Prayer Chaplets and the Rosary. 6. Contemplative Prayer enlightens us to the pain and suffering of the deceased who have no one to pray for them. 7. Contemplative Prayer heighten our awareness of God's messengers of grace (His angels) and their work of service to help those who will be the heirs of salvation. (Hebrews 1:14) Commitment: To encourage Angelus members to make a yearly commitment to this ministry of love by praying and being available for God's poor.
