Angelus Activities & Workshops

Activities of the Angelus Association

Historic Ramornie Homestead Australia

Prayer For Our Convict Heritage

Throughout the years the co-founders of the Angelus Association have been invited to present prayer workshops for groups nationally and internationally.

These workshops have evolved from members' own experience of seeking God's help in ways to pray for healing of families and their relationships.

Through these workshops participants have hands-on experience in praying with and for each other, developing the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the ability to hear God's guidance in prayer.

The participants experience the joy and the pain of forgiving those who have deeply wounded them and become aware of their spiritual and emotional burdens being lifted through the prayer ministry of Inner Healing.

Through the Angelus way of contemplative prayer, we are humbled in our faith walk, and through the way of spiritual poverty we remain in awe and reverence of the love God has for everyone.

We discover the prayer jewels of the higher gifts of the Holy Spirit through the prayer ministry of intercession.

Members recognise the role of Mary, Queen of the Angels and Saints in their prayer ministry.

Aboriginal  Blessing

Lenore Parker is a Aboriginal  Elder and the Indigenous Representative for  the Anglican Church of Australia At this Mass of the Annunciation she is praying for God's blessings to continue to descend upon Father Doyle and Steve.

Lenore has a great devotion to the Mother of God and continues to witness to her people about the many blessings Mary brings to them.

She is their mother and their spirits are wounded from the rape and pillaging of their land, culture and the loss of their identity.

She is asking both priests to continue to reach out with prayer ministry to her people.

Todd River

Alice Springs  Northern Territory

Steve, Paul and myself  ministering to the desert Aborigines in this dry river bed.  They live in the sand dunes in the scorching heat seeking shade under the tree. We asked permission if we could say Mass with them.

Once the Mass began over forty of them emerged from the trees and dunes.  They were all Catholics having been educated at one of the Missions but had returned to live in the area of their birth.

Many  of them suffer from sight impairment caused by the sand .
They asked us to pray for their health.

Mass at the Olgas

Father Doyle celebrating Mass with the American Angelus group  at one of the sacred sites at the Olgas. It was late morning and we were exhausted from the heat.  We still had quite a climb ahead of us to reach the Valley of the Winds.  The formation of the rocks, are quite unique.

The Valley of the Winds

Centre of Australia

I visited this sacred site a few years ago and marveled at the physical beauty but experienced the oppressive spirits of pagan rites and rituals still overshadowing the land.

It was dusk when this Mass was offered to re-consecrate this land again to God's glory and we experienced God in a very profound way.

Father Steve prayed for a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit to be released upon this nation and for the prayer mission of Mary of the Angelus Association.

Whenever I feel weary in God's service I always return to this memory scene of God's grace and majesty waiting for those who continue to love and serve him in others.

Praying in Cemeteries and Sacred Grounds

The Angelus Association encourages all members to pray for departed souls.

On car trips to the various Angelus communities Father Doyle and I will visit and pray at the numerous country cemeteries and sacred grounds. Time permitting a Mass will be offered at a massacre site or a Rosary prayed with spontaneous prayers of intercession for the land and the succession of settlers in the district

I have often been asked why it is necessary to physically visit cemeteries or sacred places.  Can't the prayers be prayed in front of the Blessed Sacrament or privately in our daily rosary?

Yes, I believe they can but when the Holy Spirit prompts an intercessor to pray they pray for all generations, the past present and the future. They sit, wait and listen for God's guidance and pray with their mind body and spirit.

Often they pause to pray specifically for a deceased soul and the Holy Spirit may prompt them to pray for the many generations that went before them for their loss of hope and trust in God's mercy.  The gifts of the Holy Spirit may inspire them how to pray specifically for the residents of this area. Tragedies may leave a family bitter towards God or the Church from accidents, natural disasters, floods, famine, exploitation, dispossession, financial hardships and property rights.

Intercessory prayer is prayer evangelization, a way of love by praying for those who no longer can pray for themselves. Many families also carry the burdens of hate, resentment, racism, and spiritual bigotry.  These attitudes may be formed or inherited through a culture, or family values that are not Christ like.    We may be educated to think differently, but God's grace is necessary to respond continuously   with love and acceptance of all people from all faith, cultures and nationalities.

Praying for the deceased is one way of transforming a nation's attitudes and heart to receive the beatitudes of Christ.  As we pray for the departed, they in turn pray for their living descendants. This silent army of intercessors in the heavenly realms becomes a living grace for the evangelization of God's children.
